Student Loans
St. Petersburg College participates in the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program for all Federal Stafford Loans.
By participating in the Federal Direct Student Loan Program, St Petersburg College ensures you are guaranteed access to student loan funding because student loan dollars are received directly from the Federal government. The Federal Direct Student Loan Program provides the best borrower benefits available at this time and is easy for families to understand. Having ONE source for student loan funds for Direct Loans reduces the confusion and complications for students and provides “one stop shopping,” more timely loan disbursements and better customer service.
You will, however, need to complete a new Stafford Direct Loan Electronic Master Promissory Note (MPN) if you plan to borrow Federal Stafford Loans for the 2009/10 Award Year (August 24, 2009 – May 6, 2010). You will need your Federal PIN number to complete your electronic Master Promissory Note. This will only need to be completed ONCE while you attend St. Petersburg College.
If you need help completing your Stafford Direct Loan Master Promissory Note, you may call 727-791-2485 or visit your home campus MAP Center to use one of the computers.

Book Line of Credit
Your financial aid award, including grants, scholarships and Federal Stafford Loans, will be applied to your tuition. Any remaining balance is delivered to your SPC OneCard. If the total of your financial assistance (excluding SPC or private donor scholarship) is greater than your tuition/fees balance you will be approved for the Book Line of Credit.
- The automated Book Line of Credit will be available at the campus bookstores for the Spring term between Dec. 10 and Jan. 28 if your financial assistance exceeds the cost of your tuition and fees.
- The Book Line of Credit allows you to obtain your books before the start of classes through campus bookstores.
- If you use the Book Line of Credit and you drop your classes, you will be responsible to pay the college back for the funds used.
- If all of your classes are online and you reside out of state, you may contact the campus bookstore directly to arrange to have your books mailed to your home.
Please remember that your financial assistance file must be complete and your financial assistance awards made in order to have a Book Line of Credit available to you. Please visit a financial assistance counselor or specialist at your home campus if you would like to discuss your 2009/10 financial assistance eligibility and types of assistance that will be available. You may also contact the FAS department at askfas@spcollege.edu or (727) 791-2485.
Financial Assistance Balance Disbursements
Financial assistance balance disbursements will begin at the end of the fourth week of the term. If you enroll in only express classes or eight-week two-module classes, your disbursement will occur at the fourth week of your classes.

SPC One Card Process
Financial assistance disbursements and student refunds are faster with the SPC OneCard, a MasterCard debit card issued to every student enrolled in credit classes at SPC. SPC students can look forward to these disbursements once they obtain and activate their SPC OneCard. The cards are mailed to students’ addresses on file and are provided by Higher One Inc., a financial services company.
You must activate a refund preference to receive your financial aid balance or a refund. Students can activate their SPC OneCard and make their refund selection at SPC OneCard. ATMs are available at all campuses and are free of charge when using your SPC OneCard.
Note: Student must be 18 years old as of the first day of classes to be eligible for the SPC OneCard. Students who are under age 18 are welcome to apply once they reach the age minimum.

Instructors cannot withdraw students. Instructors will continue to closely monitor student attendance and discuss any near violations or violations of attendance policies. A violation of an instructor’s attendance policy, after the voluntary withdrawal date, will result in a grade of “WF” for the student. The following are deadlines for the various types of classes:
Term
First eight-week modmester
Weekend Classes
Regular and online
Express
Second eight-week modmester |
Last day to drop with W grade
Feb. 11, 2010
March 21, 2010
March 24, 2010
April 4, 2010
April 15, 2010 |
The dates and deadlines for your courses may vary. You can view the drop and withdrawal deadline dates for each individual course listed on your class schedule by clicking on the calendar icon under each course.
You have the ability to withdraw yourself from a course online through MySPC or on campus during the voluntary withdrawal period. While this does not require instructor approval, it is still a good idea to communicate, so please consult your instructor if you have questions about the deadline for a specific class. If you enroll in a course and do not intend to stay in the course, it is your responsibility to drop the course before the end of the drop/add period to avoid academic and financial penalty. If your class start and end dates differ from those above, check with your instructor for the Voluntary Withdrawal deadline.
*Financial aid recipients: If you withdraw from classes anytime after funds have been disbursed, you may be required to repay federal financial aid funds.

Although state laws have recently eliminated the CLAST exam, students must fulfill the CLAS requirement to graduate with an A.A. or baccalaureate degree.
At the end of each term, students’ records are updated to reflect the status of their CLAS requirements. Review your unofficial transcript to ensure you have met this requirement, and consult a counselor or advisor if you have any questions.
Note to education majors: Please consult with the baccalaureate specialist or dean of the College of Education on new options related to the CLAST and teacher certification.
