Join St. Petersburg College for an engaging and interactive exploration of exciting career paths in building arts, engineering, architecture, and manufacturing (BEAM) at SPC’s Building Excitement and Aspirations in Careers event on Tuesday, March 11, on the Clearwater Campus from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This dynamic event is designed for Pinellas County, homeschool, and charter school students, and SPC students to discover and connect with the world of careers in innovative STEM fields. SPC is expecting 800 to 1,000 students to interact at the expo along with over 50 Honeywell volunteers who will be sharing their expertise.
"Honeywell is thrilled to offer career exploration and hands-on learning experiences for Pinellas County students at this year’s BEAM event at St. Petersburg College,” said Jim Currier, president and CEO of Honeywell Aerospace Technologies. “Through yearlong collaborative efforts with Pinellas County Schools and SPC, Honeywell aims to inspire students to discover a passion for STEM, guiding them toward careers in high-wage jobs and supporting the next generation of innovators and leaders.”
This is not a job fair, but a unique opportunity to explore and learn about potential career paths. Students are asked to bring their curiosity and enthusiasm, said organizers.
"This year's BEAM event will offer fun career exploration and fantastic learning opportunities. We have exciting activities with professionals speaking about what they do, companies showing what people do for work at their companies, outdoor and indoor activities, and open laboratory activities for those who attend,” said Sidney Martin, Program Director of Engineering Technology at SPC. “The event will be interesting and informative for middle school, high school and SPC students. Attendees can learn about exciting manufacturing, construction, engineering and architecture careers. We hope that community members also attend to learn about exciting manufacturing careers."
Students can learn about SPC programs such as the Biomedical Engineering Technology (BMET) Collegiate High Schools program. This program allows students to graduate with a high school diploma as well as an Associate in Science degree that includes three certifications in the BMET field.
“I am so excited to bring my new group of sixth-grade students to the BEAM event at SPC. This will be my third year taking students to SPC for these events,” said Rick Preil, engineering teacher at Clearwater Fundamental Middle School. “It is a highlight of our year. Not only are my students thrilled to spend time on a college campus, but they are always blown away by the cool experiences and the amazing things they learn.”
