If I receive financial aid, do I qualify for the SPC Promise Scholarship?
Yes, we require students to apply for financial aid and complete Verification as the first step to qualify for the SPC Promise Scholarship. The SPC Promise Scholarship will pay your tuition and fees after financial aid and scholarships have been applied.
If I don’t qualify for financial aid or scholarships, will the SPC Promise Scholarship cover my tuition?
Yes, the SPC Promise Scholarship will cover the cost of tuition and fees if you don't qualify for financial aid or scholarships.
Do I have to demonstrate financial need or be a first-generation student to qualify?
No, the SPC Promise Scholarship is not based on need or first-generation status.
If I complete the pledge to the SPC Promise Program by the deadline but don’t enroll for classes in the Fall 2025 Term, can I still receive an SPC Promise Scholarship?
No, you must enroll in the fall immediately following high school graduation.
Do I have to be continuously enrolled to receive SPC Promise?
Yes, we require students to register for both the fall and spring terms to remain eligible for the SPC Promise program. Summer is not included.
What happens if it takes me more than three academic years to get my degree? Will the Promise Scholarship cover my tuition?
For your first associate degree, the SPC Promise Scholarship will pay for your tuition and fees until the end of your third academic year (fall, spring, summer).
What happens if I fail a class, but maintain a 2.0 GPA? Will the SPC Promise Scholarship be taken away?
No, as long as you maintain 2.0 GPA and 67% completion ratio you will remain eligible for the SPC Promise Program.
Can I start taking classes in summer through the SPC Promise Scholarship?
No, the SPC Promise Scholarship will begin covering tuition costs in Fall 2025.
If I pay the tuition for my Summer 2025 classes, am I still eligible for the SPC Promise Scholarship for the fall semester?
Yes, if you pay the cost of tuition for your summer classes, you are eligible to participate in the SPC Promise Program in the fall semester.
Is there a minimum high school GPA I need to apply for the SPC Promise Scholarship?
You need the minimum 2.0 GPA required for high school graduation.
Are dual enrollment students eligible for the SPC Promise Scholarship?
Yes, if you are a 2025 graduate of Boca Ciega, Clearwater, Gibbs, Hollins, Lakewood, Northeast, Pinellas Park, or Tarpon Springs high schools, regardless of whether you have incoming credit, you are eligible for the SPC Promise Scholarship.
Are G.E.D.® students eligible for the SPC Promise Scholarship?
G.E.D.®students are not eligible for the SPC Promise Scholarship.
Do students have to be Florida residents to qualify for the SPC Promise Scholarship?
Yes, you must be considered a Florida resident for tuition purposes or have a documented high school waiver to qualify for the SPC Promise Scholarship.
Are DACA students eligible for the SPC Promise Scholarship?
DACA students can pledge to the SPC Promise Program, and we will work with each student on an individual basis to determine if they are eligible for the program.

If I already have a Florida Prepaid Plan, am I still eligible for the SPC Promise Scholarship?
Yes, you can have Florida's Prepaid Plan and be eligible for the SPC Promise Scholarship. Students who utilize Florida Pre-Paid may be able to receive a refund.
If I already have Bright Futures or other scholarships, can I still be eligible for the SPC Promise Scholarship?
If you have a balance remaining for your tuition and fees after Bright Futures or other scholarships are applied, the SPC Promise Scholarship can be awarded to cover the remaining tuition and fees. You cannot decline Bright Futures or other scholarships in order to increase the SPC Promise Scholarship.
What if I complete an Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree at the same time I graduate from high school and want to pursue an Associate in Science (A.S.) degree at SPC?
In this case, you would qualify for the SPC Promise Scholarship to complete an A.S. degree. You would not qualify for the SPC Promise Scholarship to earn a bachelor's degree.
Am I eligible if I'm part of the 2025 graduating class but finished classes early in December?
Yes, any student who graduates from Boca Ciega, Clearwater, Gibbs, Hollins, Lakewood, Northeast, Pinellas Park, or Tarpon Springs high schools with a standard high school diploma during the 2024-25 academic year is part of the 2025 graduating class and is eligible for the SPC Promise Scholarship.
Can I receive the Promise Scholarship if I also enroll at another college or university while attending SPC?
You can only be degree-seeking and eligible for aid at one school. If you are taking classes at another college or university to earn a degree, you are considered non-degree seeking at SPC and not eligible for the Promise Scholarship.
What if I need fewer than 12 credits to complete an associate degree in Fall 2025?
The SPC Promise Scholarship will cover credits up to the completion of the associate degree after other gift aid is exhausted.
If I fail/withdraw from a class, will the SPC Promise Scholarship keep covering my tuition?
Yes, if a student has an F, W, or WF the funds will remain as part of the student’s financial aid package.
Can I get cashback for the SPC Promise Scholarship?
The majority of students will not qualify to receive a refund (cashback) for the SPC Promise Scholarship. However, there are very limited situations in which a refund might be available. Students who utilize Florida Pre-Paid and/or who qualify for the maximum Pell grant award may be able to receive a refund. The SPC Promise Scholarship is considered “last-dollar” funding. It will cover all tuition and fees at St. Petersburg College, after any grants or scholarships a student receives are applied.
Do I qualify for SPC Promise if I do not meet Satisfactory Academic Progress?
No, students on SAP suspension are required to submit an SAP appeal and get on an academic plan before being considered eligible for the SPC Promise program.
Do I qualify if I am enrolled in the Police, Corrections or Fire Academy?
No, the SPC academies do not qualify.
Do I qualify if I am enrolled in the Fire/EMT Combined Program?
No, the Fire/EMT combined program does not qualify.
