Meet Patrick Hernly
Patrick Hernly chairs the Music Industry Recording Arts program at St. Petersburg College. He has performed as a drummer/percussionist with several Grammy and Oscar-winning artists, toured extensively in the United States and abroad, and his recorded work has placed at the top of Billboard and iTunes charts.
His research on international perspectives in music education has been published in national and international journals, and he has presented and performed at numerous venues throughout the world.
Hernly, who teaches music literature, commercial music, music theory, percussion and ensembles, says that SPC is an ideal place to teach.
"We have students from diverse backgrounds, faculty who are inspired and innovative, and a supportive and student-centered environment that allows these two to come together and change lives," he said.
Hernly believes that MIRA students get an edge in the field due to their ability to pursue their craft in SPC's excellent rehearsal and performance spaces, labs, and recordings studios, as well as the opportunity to learn from award-winning faculty who are successful in the field.
"Students in the MIRA program have the opportunity to study in an arts community setting where they can collaborate with other musicians and producers, as well as talented, driven individuals across the arts spectrum," he said.
