Meet Kathy Bryson
At St. Petersburg College, hiring talented and experienced faculty is a priority. SPC Writing Instructor Kathy Bryson, who holds two master's degrees, also has professional writing experience in differing contexts, and is a published author.
"My goal is to help students discover how writing can be more than just something they need to get through their Composition class; It's also a valuable resource for their careers and a rewarding means of personal expression."
Bryson's first book, Feeling Lucky, won the 2014 First Coast Romance Writers National Excellence in Romance Fiction Award and was a finalist for both an EPIC 2015 eBook Award and the 2014 Chanticleer Chatelaine Award. She has also authored three other successful novels.
Bryson called the recognition a great affirmation for a lot of hard work.
"Even with all my training, writing a book was a whole new learning experience," said Bryson, who began teaching at SPC in January 2009.
Bryson received her bachelor's degree in English from the University of Hawaii at Hilo, a master's degree in Mass Communications from San Jose State University in California, and a master's degree in Humanities from California State University at Dominguez Hills.
She worked for more than 20 years in marketing, creating successful advertising and public relations campaigns for Fortune 500 companies like Better Homes and Gardens, Franklin-Templeton, and Valpak. At SPC, she advises the student newspaper/blog The Sandbox and tutors students in writing.
