Meet Alexis Kelly
As a student in SPC's College of Education, Alexis Kelly traveled to Negril, Jamaica as part of a Study Abroad trip aimed at improving children's literacy. The trip left a huge impression on Alexis, now a third grade teacher.
"No students have touched my heart like the ones I met in Jamaica," Alexis said. "The students have so little, yet enjoy every bit of what they have or are given. They have made the greatest impact on my life, my love and my teaching abilities. Everything you do can and will make a difference or an impact in someone's life."
Alexis endorses St. Petersburg College without reservation.
"I would absolutely recommend SPC's education program to others," Alexis said. "All my classes were small, so the professors could reach every one of us and answered all our questions. It was an added benefit that SPC's program was affordable and gave me the opportunity to keep my jobs in the St. Petersburg area."
Now that she's in the classroom, Alexis said her favorite part of teaching is challenging herself to truly relate to the street smarts and academic knowledge of her students.
"I enjoy the challenge of every day in the classroom," she said. "I know that I am here for a reason."
