Teachers who continue to expand their knowledge and professional skills are better equipped to serve their students, make themselves more marketable and increase their earning potential. SPC offers a variety of continuing education opportunities for teachers including Reading Endorsement.

Training and Development Advanced Technical Certificate

If you have an associate degree and want to enter the rewarding field of training and development, consider earning this 18-credit hour certificate. With this training, you'll be ready to facilitate and lead adult learning, corporate training, and professional development sessions, and help fill a need for qualified professionals to design, implement, and assess adult training programs across a diverse set of organizations. Courses include:

  • EDG 3661 Adult Learning Theory & Curriculum Development
  • EME 4673 Foundations of Instructional Design
  • EME 4048 Designing for Learning Platforms
  • EME 4610 Emerging Trends in eLearning
  • EME 4312 Educational Technology for 21st Century Teaching
  • EME 4232 Intermediate Applications of Technology for Educators

Reading Endorsement 

SPC offers four online courses totaling 10 credits that meet the requirements for the Florida Department of Education Reading Endorsement. To receive this endorsement, you must have a Florida Professional Teaching Certificate.  

Courses include:

  • RED 4342: Foundations of Research Based Practices of Reading Education and Application of Instruction
  • RED 4541: Foundations of Reading Assessment
  • RED 4654: Foundations and Applications of Differentiated Instruction
  • RED 4844: Reading Practicum (1 credit)

How to Enroll in Continuing Education Courses

  1. Apply to SPC online and receive your student ID.
    For the Reading Endorsement, the program/student plan is DG-NO--Upper Division Non Degree, then choose Reading-Non Degree.
    1. Scan/email a copy of your Educator Certificate or DOE number to Pat Roper at roper.pat@spcollege.edu or fax 727-324-2090.

    For the Training and Development Advanced Technical Certification, the program/student plan is CERTF - Certificate Financial Aid Eligible, then choose TRNDEV-ATC.

  2. Email your SPC student ID number to Pat Roper at roper.pat@spcollege.edu for registration access. Students who complete these steps will receive directions to enroll.

You must include all Florida residency information and documentation and pay the application fee or your application may not be processed.

Students enrolled in Reading Endorsement, Temporary to Professional and Recertification courses are classified as non-degree; however, courses are graded/for credit and will be reflected on an official SPC transcript.
